This is one of those blogs where I am going to use my time travel machine. I am writing it on Wednesday, you will read it on Monday, and I am talking about a trip I am going to take on Thursday (go figure).
Another week-end back to New York, I am very excited about it. I will have the entire day of Friday for myself, and frankly I don’t know what I am going to do with all the extra time (how about an NBA game at the Garden? That would be nice).
This week my friend Motivatorman is celebrating his 400th blog. What an accomplishment! He has been my friend and mentor for a while now. He is the one who introduced me to the world of blogging and now I am a self proclaimed Superstar (round of applause please). Do you know what he says about my blog?
In his own words: “Ever since I have known Patrick he has told stories that have astounded and inspired me deeply. His are stories of real-life successes that helped me see that I could overcome my own challenges and achieve my dreams. Patrick is a powerful storyteller and his superhero name is Journeyman!”
Quite frankly, I never thought this blog would last this long. I didn’t know I would have stories to tell every week. And here I am, a year later, and I have never missed a week. I think I can retire now and return eighteen months from now (why not? Just like Michael Jordan). Don’t worry, I am here to stay (yes, I kind of sensed your disappointment).
What have I learned this week? A lot of things, but one thing sure stayed on my mind. I was watching a video about healthy eating habits (and I was hungry while I was watching it). Two guys were discussing about a diet program and why people don’t commit to keeping the discipline of eating healthy and exercising (and they were pointing at me while saying it).
At the end of the video, one challenged the other to eating healthy for 90 straight days. According to him when we do something for 90 days we create a habit that we won’t lose easily. During the course of the challenge, if he fails one day he will have to start from scratch. And for every time he misses his goal, he will give $5000 to charity. Do you think he can afford to miss a day? I don’t think so.
After watching the video, I asked myself this question. How committed am I to my goals? I can outline whatever I want to accomplish, but until there is enough actions behind it, it will still be a wish. Am I willing to pay $5000 every time I don’t do what I said I would do? First of all, my goal is to have that kind of money available anytime lol. It really takes commitment. To tell the truth, I am not at that level yet. But I am willing to try. I learned that until we have something to lose, it is hard to commit at a high level.
Now I am thinking about something I can give when I miss a thing on my to-do list. Any suggestions?
Moral of the story? Do you want to eat healthy? Just watch a video when you are starving and you will commit to your goals at a high level.
Always a pleasure
Patrick
