My Journey back to Ottawa

It's crazy how time flies so quickly. I can't believe it has been almost a year since I was in Ottawa. And now I am back there again. Same hotel, same people, same food. The only thing that changed is me (I think I am better looking now lol)

Because I arrived on the same day as our meeting I did not get a chance to meet as many people as I did last year. But I made sure to visit my friend Abdou and his wife (was it for the Raptors game we watched together, or was it for the amazing food?). It was also great to see my old friend “Black” Elvis. We had a nice chat.

I was in Ottawa for just a few days, but I really needed it. On our first day I went to bed at 7pm. I can't even remember the last time I went to bed before midnight. For the first time in months, I spent my evenings doing nothing (of course if we don't include eating, my favourite hobby). As I am writing this blog, I am on the train on my way back home. I made sure to bring my audios to keep me company during the four hour trip.

Talking about audios, a few weeks ago I bought an audio book by the great Mike Dooley (from the movie “The Secret”). This guy is a genius. He knows how to talk about complicated stuff in a simple way. In three days, I listen to the entire book. In one chapter, he said (I am paraphrasing here) that if we feel uncomfortable, it is a sign that we need to change the way we have been doing things. Oh boy I needed to hear that. But my question was “what do I need to change?” I was clueless.

After a few days, I finally got it. Do you know how it came to me? I just remembered “Peaceful Warrior” one of my favourite movies. I won't tell you the story as I want you to watch the movie. There is a part in the movie when Dan's mentor tells him that he was going to teach him how to get everything he needed from the inside. According to Dan's mentor, all the solutions to our problems can be found on the inside of us. All we have to do is...listen. What a concept!

I decided to give it a try. Why not? I had nothing to loose. This year, I have goals that are way over my comfort zone. If I want to reach them, I will have to change the way I do things otherwise I will get the same results. I heard someone say that we cannot solve any problem with the same mind that got us into them. Something has to change.

I have found my new way. It is so cool. It is still too early to tell you now (as I want you to keep reading my blogs). What I will tell you is that I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am so excited. I will keep you posted as the results will keep coming (they have already started). I feel like I have replaced Ryan Seacrest on American Idol. You will get the results after the break .......

Moral the story? Do you want to find a new way to reach your goals? Just go to Ottawa and you will eat amazing African food

My Journey to Orillia

We drove a little bit late at night. I had been to this place called Orillia before, but it was about ten years ago. I didn’t remember much about it, other than it was beautiful. Here we were on the road, and there was not much we could see, except a signal on the highway that said “beware of cattle”. We thought it was funny.   By the time we arrived at the hotel, it was almost midnight. I went straight to bed. We had to wake up early in the morning as breakfast was scheduled to be served a six O’clock. There was no way I was going to miss out.‎ You may be wondering what was happening in Orillia. I am glad you asked. A number of months ago, Paul, my business partner, got this brilliant idea, and once he shared it with me I was totally on board. He realized that for us to do what we wanted to do, we must work with partners. These may be service providers, or simply other business owners with goals similar to ours. Paul decided to go out and attend different netwo...

My Journey to two stories

I participated in a communication's course last week-end. Talk about being at the right place at the right time. It was unbelievable! Do you know what was the emphasis in the course? Guess! It was communication in relationships! No comment! Lol During the course, I reflected on two stories that I would like to share with you (free of charge of course). Here they are: There was an old guy who was sleeping in his couch. His grandkids came over while he was sleeping and placed a piece of cheese under his nose. Soon after, the guy woke up and exclaimed: “this room stinks!” He went into the kitchen and said again: “This kitchen stinks as well, maybe I should go outside”. He went outside, but still the same smell was around. Finally, in disgust he shouted: “The whole world stinks”. Little did he realize that the scent came from the cheese that was under his nose. Did you like that story? If not, I won’t share the next one. ..........Okay, okay, seeing that you insist, I wi...

My Journey to my wedding

Where do I start? I don't really know. As I am waiting for my flight at Kigali airport, with tears in my eyes, I am thinking about the last few days. There are no words that can explain what I have experienced in this month of December 2010. As Phil Collins said, it's another day in paradise. The person who said that words are powerful was so right. It took a few words from my then girlfriend, now wife (are you kidding me!!!!), to start a series of events that led me to this moment. She just said: “Honey, this long distance thing is killing me”. Having been in a couple of long distance relationships, I knew what she meant. This time, it was different. I had to do something, otherwise, this relationship would end up like the other ones. I had promised myself to do whatever it took to make this one work. As I hung up the phone, I thought I had to move mountains. I had to find a way to meet her. Originally, my intention was to visit her in July 2011, however, this felt like a cent...
